What is UH PTAC?
The University of Houston Procurement Technical Assistance Center (UH PTAC) provides free counseling, technical assistance, and low cost training to assist clients in selling to federal, state and local governments.
Why Contract with the Government?
The government is the largest buyer in the US and purchases a wide range of products and services. With purchases of over $650 billion annually, the government can be a reliable, continuous source of business.

Expert Consultants We offer one-on-one consulting assistance on all aspects of the procurement process, from identifying the appropriate government market(s) for your company to helping you submit a proper invoice for payment. We can search by part number, national stock number (NSN), vendor name, vendor CAGE code, etc. to provide a past procurement history on an item, including when the government bought it, whom they bought it from, and how much it cost. Our personnel have practical experience with government contracting in areas such as quality assurance, packaging, marketing, proposal writing and government financial and accounting systems. No fees are ever charged for research or consulting time.
Educational Seminars and Workshops We conduct workshops and seminars specifically tailored for businesses looking to do business with the government. Our courses include workshops and classes which give an overview of how to tap into the federal government market. In addition, we offer courses on how to certify your small business with federal, state and local agencies. There may be a small fee to attend some of the seminars or workshops.
Here are some examples of our specialty service areas:
Veteran-Owned Business
UH PTAC has a special focus on veteran and service-disabled veteran businesses. We provide assistance in registering for veteran-preference programs and in certifying veteran-owned businesses under the Federal Contractor Certification (FCC) program. The FCC program is designed to provide veterans with training in how to work with the government and promote visibility of the veteran-owned business.
Marketing Support
Every small business needs to get their name out in the market place. The government buyers need to know you’re out there and large prime contractors need to identify potential subcontractors. We coach you on finding the right markets for your product or service.
Public Art
Artists are business people too! Many city and state governments have money dedicated to enhancing public construction with public art. Artists need to identify themselves as a small business and market their services.
